The Philippine Islands are located in southeast Asia, south of Japan, and about 5,300 miles west of
Hawaii. The population estimate in 2009 was close to 92 million people, ranking it the 12th most
populous country in the world.
KIDS helps children from 3 different communities. The first group, are children from one of the larger
squatter areas located in city of Taguig, which is part of Metro Manila. These children live in make
shift houses in the poor parts of the city. The second group of children lives in or near the Payatas dumpsite
located in Quezon City. The final group of children lives in an orphanage in Taguig. Some of the children
have significant special health care needs. The estimated number of children treated on the Philippine
dental mission is about 1,000.
The Philippine dental mission is usually 1 week in the months of January or February led by Dr. Nate
